CELLA = The Heart of the Temple

A contemplative Space.

An Installation commissioned by Turner Contemporary

Droit House, Margate Harbour, 10 August – 8 September 2002

A proposition that the sand, sea and skies of Margate is the real dreamland, as opposed to the extensive arcades of amusements called ‘Dreamland’ opposite.

Triple wall of mussel shells suspended in a circle from a Droit House sky light (1000mm diameter) enclosing natural light from floor to ceiling.

Bench seats around enclosing wall of the circular space for contemplation

Sound (at murmur level) from inside the sculpture – an underwater recording of a single tide in Margate Harbour Mouth.
