Faith, Hope & Charity

I was fated to find the dolls abandoned on Crown Quay Wharf. They are confused about who left them here, or why and seem beset by a collective amnesia. They were fly tipped on top of a partly burned mound of clothing, dressmaking fabrics, Star Trek video cassettes, CD’s, vinyl, teddy bears and other paraphernalia including a display book of fashion studies with pages about make up and hairstyles for example. Faith Hope and Charity are the names I have given them and with which they seem happy (or as happy as anyone could be who has been so unceremoniously dumped).
They can’t believe their good fortune and tell me that they wish to travel with me, to help understand the urban fringe and to make a stand for nature at a time of such great wastefulness and lack of care. They are quite a philosophical trio and wonder why someone could so lazily dispose of them when a recycling cenre is just a hundred yards away across the Creek?

Concrete is the materia prima here. Lava flows of ready mix have been poured into hardened rivers on top of huge older slabs that formed the original quay. They are over grown by vegetation that immediately starts to creep back when people move out. There is a push and pull around the urban edges as the city expands and nature pushes back against its flow. Faith and her sisters want to boldly go forth to help me explore these new frontiers. I feel they must have been watching the Star Trek videos a lot.
