Pye’d Beauty

Clara Pye made over three hundred water colour studies of flora in the 1890s, mostly from close to her home at Knight Place and which are now kept at the Guildhall Museum in Rochester. They record a need to know her own place better, and show a responsibility and care for the fragility and variety of local wild flowers. Over a hundred years later, Jean Cowley’s drawing shows the same need to understand nature in the ‘wastes’ around town today. Both Clara’s work along with the drawings of Jean and the WAGS, will be exhibited in a show I am sharing with Jo Roberts in the UCA Gallery in the Pentagon Centre in October  (please see separate page of information).
