Rochester Riverside: Jane Pitt

Jane Pitt is a wonderful artist who has invested a great deal of energy into the ‘soundtrack’ of Medway’s edges, discovering innovative ways to embed the rhythmn of avain communication  into our perception of marshlands around the edges of urban Swale and Medway. Depressed at the stalled redevelopment of Rochester Riverside, two years ago she led a group of local people in a symbolic re-sowing of wild flowers on the newly leveled wastes. It was a gesture of solidarity with the natural environment though course she knew that nature would not be long in taking action of its own.  Noone can begin to guess whether any of her seeds took root, but nature has its own mechanisms for the work in hand. Rochester Riverside yesterday was a gloriously overgrown habitat for the birds that Jane champions.
